The Center Director is responsible for ensuring the health, safety, and quality of education for all children within the center’s care. This position is directly accountable for overall operational management, including curriculum development, staff and facilities management, legal and budgetary considerations, and long-range planning. The Center Director ensures that the needs of the students and the goals of the center are met in accordance with all state and local requirements. This position works on-site and reports to the Child Care Ministry Team of Grace Lutheran Church.

The Center Director must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and able to meet all other requirements, including ongoing professional development, as set forth by DCYF and Early Achievers. 

Education, Experience and Qualifications

  • AA in ECE/Early Childhood Education State Certificate (Bachelor of Arts degree in Child Development preferred) and 2 years related work experience

  • Preferred Bilingual in Spanish, French, Arabic, or other language

  • WA State Child Abuse Clearance/Criminal History Record Background Check

  • Strong work ethic and integrity; ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion and judgment based upon limited information

  • Commitment to racial equity and an understanding of trauma-informed and healing-centered care, and experience working with individuals from diverse backgrounds and income levels

  • Excellent written/verbal communication, leadership, and customer service skills

  • Ability to work under deadlines, manage several tasks simultaneously, and organize and prioritize work quickly in response to changing needs

  • Advanced knowledge of relevant software and online tools 

Job Duties

Program Management

  • Ensure compliance and adhere to quality standards as required by DCYF, Early Achievers, and the vision established by the ministry team. Maintain accurate records and build positive relationships with regulatory agencies.

  • In collaboration with the ministry team, implement strategic plan and goals to support the mission of Grace Children’s Center.

Staff Management

  • Train and support staff in implementing mitigation measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19, coordinate with Public Health - Seattle & King County, and ensure the Center follows established illness and emergency policies.

  • Hire, onboard, mentor, and coach staff following ministry procedures, and manage staffing schedule in adherence to DCYF and L&I regulations.

  • Lead monthly staff meetings, plan staff development days, and ensure staff’s continuing education as required by licensing.

Child Development and Family Engagement

  • Utilize the Creative Curriculum, Second Step and develop general educational programming in collaboration with staff in adherence to Early Achievers.

  • Serve as subject matter expert, supporting and modeling best practices for staff to ensure positive, developmentally appropriate child engagement. 

  • Maintain communications with families of current and prospective students through direct newsletters, family handbook, website and social media.

Financial and Office Administration

  • Oversee all office functions including payroll, accounts payable and receivable, tuition billing and payment, human resources and staff supervision, and vendor and inventory management.

  • Provide accurate management of agency and family accounting and record keeping, and provide clear and consistent communication in partnership with the office manager regarding accounts receivable.

  • Lead budget planning and review, and align to GCC’s enrollment and tuition strategy, goals, and objectives.

  • Manage compliance with the CACFP Federal Food Program.
